The Kenya International Film Festival Trust welcomes you to the 3rd KIFF which is to be held on 22nd October - 1st November 2008.
The main objective of the film festival is to promote film culture in Kenya and the region by showcasing both local and international films. The first International Festival which took place in October 2006 was a huge success with a record participation of at least 7,000 in the two venues we had. The World Intellectual Property Organisation held a three day workshop which discussed film rights in the region and internationally. The various workshops with filmmakers dealt with production and were fully attendedespecially by the hundreds of media/film students and film aspirants in and around Nairobi. The 2nd festival saw an increase in participants and festival activities.
This success means that the festival has proven that its worth and must be continued and expanded to incorporate community centres, other towns and cities in Kenya. Building audiences is as important as encouraging young talents to produce Kenyan and regional films. Naturally, there is more incentive if the films can be premiered at an international film festival with the possibilities that accompany such shows: the directors can interact with, and exchange views, with their audiences. Kenyans are eager to see their own stories on screen: this was proven last year by the full-house attendance during shows featuring local films.
Film is a way of traveling, of gathering knowledge and reflecting ourselves.
We welcome you to support and attend the festival, and to feel at home in Nairobi , Kenya , at least for the festival week.
